Ray Sinclair was born in Moultrie, Georgia May 26, 1959 to the late Robert and Alice Sinclair. Unfortunately, he went home from labor to reward March 13, 2024. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida at an early age and received his general education from the Duval County Public Schools. Ray graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1978 exhibiting superb academics and athletic abilities. After graduation, he continued his education and football career at Davidson College and graduated with his Bachelors in Political Science in 1982.
Ray Sinclair was the only Davidson player to gain more than 3,000 yards, having compiled 3,085 yards in his career. That same year, he received the Tommy Peters Award, the highest athletic honor given to a male athlete at Davidson. After graduation, Sinclair signed as a free agent with the Seattle Seahawks where he played for 2 years.
Teaching was his passion. As such, he was a teacher and Assistant Principal for Duval County Public Schools for 17 years. He later received his Masters in Education in 2020 and a Masters in Divinity.
He was a member of Sweetfield Missionary Bapticst Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Richard. R. Russ. He became active in the church and held the position as Deacon until his death. Ray was also the Regional Director for the SHADS, an association with Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
His parents, Robert Sinclair, Sr. and Alice Brown Sinclair proceeded him death as well as two brothers, Albert Sinclair and Robert Sinclair, Jr.
Ray was loved by many and did what he could for those in need. His teaching and coaching to children of all ages was his most precious reward. His words were stern and strong but he left a positive impact on many. Most of all, he loved the Lord.
Ray leaves to cherish and celebrate his life, his wife of 17 years, Zina Mushiel Sinclair; children, Eboni Johnson (Darrick), Ray Sinclair II (Kenisha), Gerrod Sinclair (Naomi), Charlton Sinclair and Artazion Sinclair; two bonus daughters: Nacya Wates (Jermaine) and Latayja Pride; Four brothers; Willie C. Brown (Janice), Eugene Sinclair (Kesha), Leon Sinclair and Terrell Sinclair; Four sisters; Mary Williams, Mildred Sinclair, Burnice Strickling (Edward) and Teriana Sinclair; Fourteen grandchildren, Rickevia, LaMari, Darrick, Darrian, Brooke, Sincere, Tayanna, Champ, De’Shawn, Ke’Mari, Se’Renity, Jermaine II, Josiah, Kaleb; one great grandchild; Bryce; mother-in-law, Carrie Williams; brother-in-law, Tony Williams (Judy); sister-in-laws, Sherry Sinclair, Jeanette Sinclair and Sherwanna Williams; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
